Monteriggioni gets ready for the new edition of the 1st Italian Medieval Festival.

The Monteriggioni Medieval Festival, now in its 28th year, is widely recognized as one of the most important and long-lasting historical re-enactment events of our country.

Monteriggioni, a superb castle celebrated by Dante Alighieri, is the center of a cultural district highly dedicated to heritage preservation and promotion: the beauty of the place favours a slow tourism, which finds its best expression in food, local products and in the Tuscan way of welcoming its visitors.

The great festival starts on July 5 with a banquet at the Castle, a spectacular event that offers a medieval dinner based on a serious philological research of both the culinary aspects and the entertainment during the event.

This year, two important musical performances will be hosted in Monteriggioni: on July 6 and 7, the castle will be part of the European tour of Corvus Corax, a very popular German cult band known for playing medieval music with neo-authentic instruments.

Rota Temporis, an emerging Italian medieval music band, will play an energetic show during the second weekend (July 14 and 15); it will be an impressive and engaging event, even for an audience not familiar with ancient music.

The presence of a great number of street artists is the distinctive feature this edition. People will be especially involved, not only visually but also experientially.

Families will always be regarded as the guest of honour at the castle, by creating an ideal place for their entertainment with many spaces dedicated to children.

The Castle is being constantly visited by tourists, who immerse themselves in this soul-shaping scenery, breathing the air of the past centuries and enjoying the legacy of history.
