Monteriggioni di torri si corona | La Festa Medievale
In cammino sulla Via Francigena, tra castello e leggenda
L’edizione 2008 delle Feste Medievali di Monteriggioni, realizzata nell’arco di due
fine settimana, avrà come tema principale la vita del Castello “tra storia e leggenda”,
attraverso la riproposizione di alcuni tra i più significativi avvenimenti storici che coinvolsero
la cittadina senese tra medioevo e rinascimento. Il primo week end sarà infatti dedicato
agli eventi bellici che nel 1254 contrapposero Siena a Firenze, mentre quello successivo
ricorderà l’assedio
fiorentino del 1526. Le Feste saranno contraddistinte dalla convivenza tra l’aspetto più prettamente
ricostruttivo - sia militare (evoluzione delle tattiche militari, delle armi, dei
sistemi difensivi) che civile (la vita quotidiana di un borgo assediato, la sua alimentazione,
i suoi mestieri, ecc…) – e
quello spettacolare (saltimbanchi, musici, giocolieri), che quest’anno intende proporsi come
vero e proprio festival di livello nazionale. Il tema principale al quale faranno
riferimento le diverse spettacolazioni, andrà oltre quello della città sotto assedio
per abbracciare il Medio Evo legato all’immaginario fantastico ed esoterico, con la creazione
di percorsi dal forte valore suggestivo e di uno spettacolo di fuochi. Verrà approfondito
il forte legame della roccaforte di Monteriggioni con il centro monastico di Abbadia
a Isola e con l’importantissima
arteria culturale, sociale e religiosa costituita dalla Via Francigena.
"Il
pellegrino che passeggia attraverso gli eventi rischia di distrarsi e di dimenticarsi
della sua meta: è possibile
che si dimentichi di Roma, oppure delle città del Nord dove lenta lo accompagnerebbe la Via
Francigena. Rimane a vagare in questi campi ed in questi boschi intrisi di memoria
e di fantasia perché non trova modo di distaccarsi ne da essi né dalle loro suggestioni."
Da
queste parole nasce l’intento di legare tutte le attività proposte in un percorso ideale
che, attraverso il filo conduttore della Via Francigena un tempo percorsa da pellegrini,
mercanti ed eserciti, sappia farci riappropriare del valore e del significato del cammino e del
viaggio, così comuni
oggigiorno ma così straordinari in tempi oramai avvolti dall’oblio del tempo.
La novità di quest’edizione è l’allestimento di un campo d’assedio all’esterno delle mura, in cui troveranno posto:
- nel primo fine settimana, un campo dei tornei e un attendamento militare del XIII Secolo per uno spettacolo serale dalla forte componente spettacolare, che esalterà le tecniche e le dinamiche di un vero torneo medievale;
- nel secondo fine settimana, le schiere fiorentine armate di batterie d’artiglieria per la rievocazione di una vera e propria battaglia in “campo aperto”.
E all’interno del castello: mercanti, artigiani, musici, giullari, giocolieri, pellegrini, fattucchiere, mendicanti, monaci e frati inquisitori, militi e le immancabili taverne per un medio evo da rivivere e…gustare!
On your way along the Via Francigena, between fortress and legend
The 2008 edition of the "Feste Medievali di Monteriggioni" (Monterriggioni Medieval Festival), takes place over two weekends. The main theme is Fortress life "between History and Legend" which will be put over by recreating a few of the Sienese town's most significant historical incidents from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The first weekend will be dedicated to the wartime events of 1254 when Siena was fighting against Florence, while the following weekend will be dedicated to the Florentine siege of 1526. The Festival will be distinguished by the relationship between the purely reconstructive aspect – from both military (the evolution of military tactics, weapons, defensive systems) and civil points of view (daily life in a town under siege, the diet, its trades etc...,) – and the spectacular aspect (acrobats, musicians, jugglers), and this year's edition would like to be considered as a proper Festival on a national level. The main theme which the various performances refer to, goes further than that of the town under siege to include the Middle Ages associated with fantastic, esoteric imagery, through the creation of highly suggestive itineraries and a fireworks display. It will also investigate the strong links between Monteriggioni, the fortress, Abbadia Isola, the monastic centre, and the Via Francigena, the very important cultural, social and religious route.
"The pilgrim walking through the events risks getting distracted and forgetting his goal: it is possible that he forgets Rome, or the cities of the North where the Via Francigena slowly accompanied him. He stays to wander in these fields and woods steeped with memory and fantasy because he can't find a way to detach himself from these nor from what they evoke."
These words provided the basis of the idea to bring all the proposed activities together to form an ideal itinerary which - following the thread of the Via Francigena once travelled by pilgrims, merchants and armies - will help us rediscover the value and meaning of walking and travelling, which are so common nowadays but which in olden times, lost in the mists of the past, were so extraordinary.
The novelty in this edition is a siege encampment outside the city walls, where:
- in the first weekend a jousting field and a 13th century military encampment will be set up for a highly spectacular evening exhibition, which will demonstrate the techniques and dynamics of a real medieval tournament;
- in the second weekend, regiments of Florentine artillery batteries will be laid out to re-enact a real battle in an "open battleground".
Meanwhile inside the fortress walls there will be: merchants, artisans, musicians, jesters, jugglers, pilgrims, witches, beggars, monks and inquiring friars, soldiers and of course the taverns for a medieval experience to live and... enjoy!
