Dante Alighieri con la sua fantasia vedeva le torri di Monteriggioni come giganti tra la nebbia.
Allora, il castello fatto costruire nel 1213 dalla Repubblica di Siena era un avamposto contro i
fiorentini. Dopo tanti secoli le mura possenti di Monteriggioni torneranno nella Storia. Ecco quindi
accampamenti di soldati, sentinelle sulle mura e poi macchine da guerra, battaglie e duelli per far
rivivere "L'assedio del 1244" (nel primo week end) e "L'assedio del 1478" (nel secondo). Ma il Medioevo
verrà ricreato in tutti i suoi aspetti: dentro il castello, tra i banchi e le botteghe di
artigiani, in mezzo a mercanti, giullari, popolane e donne di facili costumi, mentre nelle locande
si paga con monete antiche fatte coniare apposta dalla Zecca di Lucca. Dal pomeriggio a notte fonda
giochi e laboratori didattici per bambini, spettacoli di giocolieri, artisti di strada e concerti
con strumenti antichi. E una mostra di armature dal XI al XVI sec. è allestita dentro il Museo.
Monteriggioni returns to the Middle Ages. So here is the soldiers' encampment, sentries on the
walls and war machines, battles and duels to help relive " The siege of 12 44 " (during
the first weekend) and " The siege of 1478 " (during the second). Inside the castle you
will find the stalls and shops of craftsmen and merchants, along with jesters, townsfolk and jugglers'
shows, street artists and concerts with antique instruments; whilst in the inns mediaeval money is
widely accepted. This year games and educational workshops for children will be on the programme.
And an exhibition of armour from the eleventh to the sixteenth century is housed in the Museum.
